Personal Response

Personally, this wasn’t my favorite film. I don’t like the cowboy theme or anything surrounding that genre. Nevertheless, I can still think of some interesting lessons. With the three cowboys, the kid is literally a kid trying to act like an adult and prove himself. He wants to appear tough. He’s inexperienced but excited to be alive and finally doing grown-up things.

Then reality hits him. Being an adult and being a cowboy isn’t all fun. He suddenly realizes that his role model isn’t who he thought he was, and he becomes depressed. Through this, we understand why Will has that quiet, hidden depression, because that’s the life he has lived all along.

The film also shows the role that beauty plays in a woman’s life. Without it, her worth seems to disappear. Alice is no longer considered valuable after her face is scratched, and everyone knows it, including herself.

I had to force myself to sit down and watch it because it really did not capture my attention. It was also hard to understand at times, and on a bigger scale, I thought the plot wasn’t very interesting. A woman gets her face scratched, and then the cowboys try to catch the man to kill him. To me, that felt very simple and not compelling.
